On today’s vlog, I invite you to join us at Sportsman’s Refuge, an archery shop that my family has owned for 20+ years! Today I walk Jeremiah through a couple issues he has been having with target panic and shooting his bow. Target panic, in the form of punching the release, is an issue that can be hard to fix. It will not be an immediate fix. Jeremiah will need to work at his form and shooting religiously in order to correct the issue. On today’s episode, I show him how to do just that!
Tournament season is finally starting to wind down with only four tournaments to go in the year so my focus is slowing turning back out into the hunting world! Jeremiah and I took the day to make a trip down to our Ohio farms to check cameras after having them out most of the summer so far! Going down to check these trail cameras gets me pumped every time just to see if “Big Ed” has shown back up yet on the farm, and any other potential shooters that we can make an inventory of!
We are having a rough start to the day with two flat tires on the four wheeler. It continues to get worse as we swapped SD cards out of the cameras and it was only bad news. Around ten thousand pictures and no “Big Ed” or any other shooters….pure disappointment! After being so excited to get there and see where he was staying and nothing but a great number of healthy does, fawns, and a few small bucks.
So it looks like the farm is turning into a huge doe pocket, but on the bright side maybe once the season gets a little closer all of our mature bucks will roll back in! Can’t wait to see what the cameras will have in store for us once the deer go hard horned and their fall ranges are established.
It’s not often in this state that a hunter gets the chance to chase a 200” Ohio buck! Therefore you should not wonder why I am completely obsessed with the buck I call “BIG ED” in the image above! This buck has all but haunted me for the last two years. Watching him grow from a two-year-old to the picture above last year (coming close to 190”), and now an estimated 200”+ four-year-old for this year’s season drives me nuts! Why? I have still NOT laid eyes on him while hunting! He narrowly avoids most camera sets and is nocturnal! However, the 2017 Ohio archery season might put luck on our side! I’m taking a completely different approach on him.
He has traveled on the same path of another 200”+ deer we called “Ghost” several years ago that we never killed. This eerie history with complete giants finally gave me an idea of where he might be staying or moving during daylight…if he’s still alive! After “BIG ED” disappeared in the middle of October last year, I’m still left hoping he’s alive! Since I am still clueless on his whereabouts I put up 6 cameras surrounding the travel route he normally runs in the early season. My fingers are crossed that he appears on one of the cameras here soon to brighten our hope for the season this year!
